Tailgate bracket / guide.. Remove it?

Maybe next year the SD will come with the F-150 flat tailgate with pole and step.
I'm 58 too, and can climb it as well. But I still like the feature.

What I don't like about it is the pole sticking up above the tailgate surface and the step will unlatch/flip when I close the tailgate if I push on the center of the gate. Took care of the pole and I try to push the tailgate up from either side. It's handy because it's there, don't think I'd pay for it on a new truck though, mine was a used purchase.

my knees thank me every time for the step and pole. Used it yesterday to put the xmas tree into the bed and take it out.

Yeah looks a little rough but it is fine. We got this one with the ability to shape it when we got it home.

I special ordered my truck and did not order the tail step. Reason? I hated the pole and the plastic bumpy crap on the tailgate. Always tore it up trying to slide stuff in and out of the truck.
Also, the top pieces of plastic on the tailgate always got busted up and loose (the things on either side of the pull out step). I really like my new plain tailgate door but I do miss the step. Takes more effort to get in and out of the bed, but I'm good with it.
