350 V10 lacking everything. What first?
I bought an F350 V10 (2004) about a year ago. 4WD and probably 3.77 RE with the 4 speed. First tow was a 42' fifth wheel at 14Klbs. Lets say the experience was eye opening. 13mph on the freeway from ABQ to Taos was not inspiring. A F450 dually 6.2 fixed the tow issue. Now I have a daily truck (the 350) that still seems like it struggles to pull itself.
After scouring this site the rear end ratio seems to be my biggest problem. Since I drive a lot from NM to Georgia and back, mileage would be a priority with occasional towing so keeping the 3.77 might help there.
Q: does getting the rpm up on the V10 under light load save fuel? Set of 4.10 rings?
Next area would be a tune. Helped a lot on the 450.
Q: Is there a tuner that can quickly switch between econ and power less the 20 min full program?
Last Q: Any other known performance issues to check .. coil packs maybe. Got a slight lump in the idle which should be silky smooth for a 10 cylinder. Any tricks to find the offending pack?
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ky-thread.html and then make a phone call and ask your questions. This guy is highly recommended as a v10 guru. Like I said I have the rv tune so he also has others.
Most people with v10s dodge or ford do not seem to get impressive mileage any time. Friend had a dodge that siad it was like my old 69 charger, would pass everything but a gas station. He bought a CTD!
Even the 450 got 16 unloaded.
Thanks for the tip Hank. I'll give them a call.

13 MPH? Or 13 MPG? One is pretty bad the other is pretty good if towing.

Many V-10 folks have gone from 3.73 gears up to 4.10 or 4.30 and have seen an improvement in city MPG and little to no change on the highway. Yes the V-10 like to rev and it's more efficient at slightly higher revs with lower throttle opening.

Using the SCT tuner from 5Star I swap tunes in about 2.5 minutes, truck must be shut off for this though, no changing tune on the fly.
