I picked up on it... but sarcasm and my sarcasm in response don't quite translate over the web.
The purpose of the warranty plate was to allow dealers to verify how the vehicle was originally equipped in case of repair or a warranty claim. For example, you could order a regular Mustang coupe with a plain C-code 2V 289. But if ya drove in with a Hi-Po 289 (a K-code) and claimed that whatever was wrong with the engine was covered under the warranty, the dealer need not fulfill the claim because the vehicle wasn't equipped with a K-code engine according to the warranty tag. Apply the same to broken transmissions, rear gears, axles, etc.
In the flyer add I posted ti looks like a 76-77 grill shell and then all the rest of the pics look like 78 or 79 with squares.
