I guess you could say I need thicker skin. My folks moved to Utah a more than a dozen years ago, my dad drives for a trucking company there, and I guess you could say that I have gotten tired of the multiple wives cracks people make when they hear Utah.

All I know, is that it is a beautiful state, with over all nice people. I would not choose to live there, but there are many, many worse places I could end up...

Well I would like to apologize either way. It is a pretty state (from what I hear) and Mormons are just normal people (with the exception of that 1% that practice polygamy) and the generalized joke at both of their expenses is a little pathetic.

Wanted one from the day they hit the showroom but couldn't justify the price or lack of practicality. Bought a 30 foot TT last summer and you just can't comfortably fit 4 adults (boys are 21 and 18) and 2 dogs in an F350 Crew Cab so an Ex fit the bill perfectly.

Always wanted one since I first saw one and my younger brother said it had a diesel engine option. I liked the size and the look of it, but the thought of a diesel powered SUV sold me on it.

My Dad originally bought the '01 in my sig, new August 27th, 2001 and I was in love. By 2003, he grew to hate it and I grew to love it, it legally became mine October 2012. Between 2001 and 2013 I drove it all over Texas and Louisiana, I never really needed the room, the truck was just nice to have and is an amazing vehicle that Ford designed and built.

Fast forward to September 2013: The Big Red Beast had seen better days and after a major repair I had to do (waterpump and harmonic balancer) everybody and their mom (and my Mom) were after me to get something newer. I couldn't justify an F150 because I had no need for a truck and didn't like the dinky fuel tank, I couldn't justify a newer Super Duty with a 6.7 becuase I like something I can work on and didn't want a $700+ truck payment. To that end, one vehicle really fit me and what I needed and wanted, it was also my dream truck: a 2005 Excursion.

I searched for a month before I found the one that met my hard to find criteria:

-Lighted running boards (most common option was the non-lighted)
-2005 6.0 Engine
-4x4 Trailer tow group option

I found it 700 miles away with a bad oil cooler and leaking EGR cooler and drove it home October 11th, 2013 . A month later it was bulletproofed and I've been happy ever since.

Do I need the room?

Do I tow anything?

Not really, but owning an Excursion is like having a gun: You'd much rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

LOL, well said sir!

I like the extra room for the family and the ability to tow heavy loads when needed a few times a year.

Well my wife was complaining that we needed a bigger vehicle and wanted me to get rid of both my vehicles at the time Caddilac STS and Ford F150. So I found this beautiful SUV. It does everything I need. Tow one of several trailers and our boat. When we have family and friends visit they all fit. When we take long trips the kids are far enough apart that they dont fight the whole time. It drives on the beach!! and the #1 reason is our son now 14 plays hockey and we travel every weekend usually in the snow. Typically I have 2-3 of the other kids on his team with me. This was the biggest baddest SUV I could find to help me deliver this precious cargo to our destinations.

I bought my first one because it had a 24" lift and I have Napoleon syndrome. Sold it because it was the biggest piece of **** I have ever owned...the people that had it before me did everything half-assed. I fell in love with the amount of space on the inside though and started looking for the one I have now just 2 months after selling the big one. Now I am looking for a 2nd one.

I bought a trailer that was "too big" for my 86 F150, then you add two Pibbles and my extreme amount of Awesomeness, and we needed an Excursion. We haven't taken said trailer out in about 1.5 years...
