Dist install
Good day,
Install the distributor with the rotor pointing/lined up with the #1 cylinder plug wire on the dist. cap.
Make sure that cylinder #1 is on top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke, both valves closed. If you are not sure, take the #1 spark plug out and rotate the crankshaft. Air will blow out the spark plug hole as it approached TDC on the compression stroke. If you install it on the exhaust stroke, you will hear all kinds of backfiring when you try to start the engine. That is usually referred to as 180 degrees out.
