I am posting this for a friend of mine. He has a 2003 F550 Chassis truck that has a dump body on it. He bought it used spring 2013. Not high milage (IIRC 84000 on it) He has to problems with it. One is the shift indicator on the dash no longer works. It is on first gear. Was wondering if there is an easy fix for that.
He also had to replace the fuel tank on it. The coating in the stock metal tank peeled off and caused problems. He didnt want to buy a new stock tank for fear of the same problem occuring, plus the cost was way high. He installed a plastic tank, but used the original fuel pump. The fuel gauge worked for a year, then this year it started failing when the tank is half full. Now it wont work at all. I regrounded the pump when it was still working, but this did not fix it. Is the sending unit bad or is there something else going on?
Up under the dash if you look up to the colum there is a little white wheel hooked to the shifter cable. About a inch from that there is a bracket with two torque screws the two screws always come out and cause problems. First tighten the two torque screws then go under the truck and remove the cable from the transmission. Have a second person get in the truck and put the shifter to N and hold it then you push the trans lever all the way to the rear axle then go up three clicks forward to N position and then put the shifter cable back on and move the lock clip to hold it there and your good to go
