I recently got a 1997 F700 and i need to know what transmission it has. When I tried to use the decoder on this site, it tells me there is no information. The VIN is 1FDXF7085VVA15658 I am going to need a syncro or a transmission.

The TRANS code is not within the VIN .. 1980 thru today: It's listed separately on the Certification Label.
Thanks for the reply. I will look at the truck today and get the trans code. I purchased this truck in a package deal with a 1970 LT 900 with a 534, 9 speed fuller trans, twin screw rear and a lime bed. This truck is really nice for a 70 model. drives good and has hardly no rust.
Bought a F750 Dump truck and need the specs, timing, fluids etc... on it. VIN is F75EVQ74081. Not sure if it's the original engine (361 FT). How do I identify it? Has 352 cast under the drivers side head with a smaller 23 above it. Any help is appreciated, Wayland
"352" is cast in all FE/FT blocks up to a certain year, then a reverse or mirror imaged "105" shows up.
FT motors have cast or steel front covers with an engine mount incorporated, and two "ears" for mounts off the bell. The crank diameter is usually 1 3/4" vs. 1 3/8" for an FE.
See if you have an FE or FT. Chances are you have an FT, as converting to an FE is a pita and they generally don't live long in medium truck applications unless babies. Do you have a governor on the carb and distributor?
FE or FT, it is impossible to tell what you have from the outside. They all look alike in any given year, and are pretty close for all years. Stoke for a 330 and 361 is 3.50". You can measure through a plug hole, but that is not very accurate and is usually best when comparing two engines--a known 390 vs. a "claimed" 390. (all engines are 390 on sale day....)
Tune up specs for point gap, if you still have points, are the same for all Fords V8s at .017.
Oil is probably 8 quarts for an FT, no less than 6. Oil weight--I would try to stay with whatever has been run, but Shell Rotella 15w-40 would be good. Not sure on cooling.
Thanks for the info. I'm having trouble getting it to idle smoothly. Any idea what the timing should be set at? I see it varies widely in 1974. I have her set at 10* at this point it runs smoothest with the mixture screws 1 turn out. But I have to set the idle screw almost all the way in. By the way happen to notice the equivalent of a window sticker stuck to the cab behind the passenger door. Says engine is "Ford 361 EFW" has MO and 560A above that.
Thanks again, Wayland
I am in the auction business and working for a bank that has 3 large trucks with 11 digit VIN's and they don't have much other info. Any help would be appreciated.

F75 = F750 (gas).
E = 361 2V FT engine.
V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.
Q74081 = 1973 / 1973 F500/750 serial number range:Q00,001-S60,000
352 is a foundry mark only, does not indicate the size of the engine. FE/FT engines were cast as 352's, so this is why 352 is cast on the block.

F60CCA46905= F600 with 330 2V M/D FT gas engine, but last 6 digits of the VIN decode to either a 1967 or a 1976.*
N80FVY89161 =1977 LN800 with 391 4V FT gas engine.
R71UVGH0102 = 1980 LN700 with Caterpillar 10.4L (636 cid) V8 diesel or Detroit 12.1L (736 cid) V8 diesel.
*If a 1976, the production date is printed at the upper left on the Safety Standard Certification Label, glued to the B pillar below the striker plate.
1967 doesn't have this label, as it was introduced in 1970.

The 5th digit of the 11 digit VIN is the assembly plant code.
This truck is most likely a 1976, since it was assembled at the Oakville Ontario Canada Truck Assembly Plant.
While some were sold new in Canada, most were sold new in the US.
DSO code stamped on the 3rd line-far right of the Warranty Plate, riveted to the left door face below the latch. Post the DSO code.
Prior to January 1, 1968, Ford and Mercury trucks assembled in Canada were only sold new in Canada. And Canada is a long way from Alabamy!
