I have a 97 Ranger 4x4 with frozen u-joint behind the steering knuckle, right hand side! Since that assembly at a Ford dealer is $479, I think that it's a good idea to try get the u-joints to rebuild it myself. There are no snap rings visible, so I really don't how they come apart or even if they can be rebuilt but they should be!
Any know anything about these u-joints and where I could find replacements?? It's a Dana 35 front end.
Originally posted by steve83 The snap rings are inside the yokes. Look it up here. Any parts store will have them for ~$25ea for Spicer Gold (the best).
So, your saying that there is a external ring on the bearing cap on the inside? Actually the shaft isn't out yet, I just have to cut the boot clamp and pull it out.
I went to the Dana site and some removal/install PDFs. I don't recall seing a style with a snap ring of sorts on the inside but I'll look again.
