Have a 1987 ranger since new. It,s a 4by4. the speedo jumps around. Pulled the cable out of the thing that goes into the transfer box. The nylon gear is great. No damage. What do the wires do that are in that thing? The truck does not have cruise control. Not sure about the other gear that is in the transfer box. Will have to look @ it. The cable turns freely. Thanks to anyone with help for my problem . Friskyjake

Thank you very much Mikeman. Checked the large gear inside the transfer box . it is beautiful. No wear. So it is either the vss or the speedo head. Will see which one with some recycle parts 1st.
