Diff rebuild

Hey
I bought a true trac and a timken bearing/seal kit to rebuild my 01 7.3l rear diff and be rid of my open diff. I was wondering if anyone had done the work themselves and could give me some guidance, pointers, or step by step. Or if anyone knows if a Diff shop in North WA that would do the work for a reasonable price. I have the parts and the cheapest quote I could get for labour was $600. But I've heard of people doing it in 3 hours. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Just FYI. It is not a difficult job, but it takes time and patience and the right TOOLS. If you have access to a press, bearing pullers, and dial indicators, and a case spreader then start by getting the pinion depth right, then work on backlash and wear pattern. If you don't have access to the tools, better off to pay someone else, or if you have a buddy that has the knowledge and tools then you buy the beer and pizza!

As a side note, a good shop manual is your friend!
Best to you.

Thanks for the input. If I can get it across the border I have a friend with a mechanic shop that might help me. But I might just get someone in WA to do it. Tough call. Randy 's ring and pinion said they wouldn't do the install because they didn't supply the parts. Fair enough.

Can you return the kit? Randy's is one of the best, I bought all my stuff from them when I did 4.30 gears and lockers. Plus their prices are awesome.

I wouldn't DIY, not worth screwing it up. Gear mesh pattern has to be spot on or it'll whine and wear out. I even have the tools and wouldn't do it.

I'm not sure if I could return it but I got a good deal on the parts and have a really good mechanic that is going to do the install for me. Is 5 here anything I should be doing to the gears while I'm down there? I don't want to change the ratio or anything.
Thanks
