Hanging fresh flatheads

Cody found this picture on the internet recently. I encouraged him to post it here, and he said he would do that. Well....I guess he's more interested in girls nowadays, and he never got around to posting it. So here it is. As best I can tell, this picture was possibly "tweeted" by Ford recently as a "throwback Thursday" type deal. I'd like to walk into a room like that. We need a time machine.

Thanks for sharing, Doc.

I saw this picture somewhere before, maybe on Facebook. It was called a Forest of Faltheads.

What year are they? Were the green the truck engines?

Well we all know the car engines were bronze colored. And I THINK the color of the truck engines was changed to that greenish color in 1952 and remained that color through 1953. So I would guess that is a picture of some of the last flatheads produced.

It's a strange picture. The Car engines in early '50's were "tangerine" which looks bronze, the green are truck engines. They are clearly 8BA-style engines but look at the bellhousings; they look to me like the kind used on industrial engines, and have a flange on the outputs that isn't for a trans. The bellhousings also have a sheet metal lower half. This was posted on the Ford Barn but I can't find the thread.

Not sure about Cody, but Mark had posted that picture, or a similar one about 2 weeks ago here

I noticed that as well. Is it possible that was some sort of re-usable protective casing they put over them until they could be mated with the appropriate bellhousing, clutch, and tranny?

And then there is one that appears to be multicolored. Sure would like to have a better view of the water pump area.

Could be, but from what I've seen in old factory shots, Ford treated engines like a government mule.

They used that light green on the Lincoln 337, too. Basically a truck engine.

Interesting. Marine, or industrial? I say for an Airplane! if they were earlier 30's flatheads anyway..

That pic showed up on Ford's official Instagram page on Thanksgiving. It was a "throw back Thursday" post.
