the passenger front seatbelt on my 2001 escape is locked up. it's all the way retracted and will not come out. i removed it last night from the car and it can continue to retract further, but will not let any slack out.
this does not appear to be a servicable item and i probabaly shouldn't mess with it.
wondering if anyone else had this issue? i've owned probably 20 ford vehicles and never had this problem before.
i think the best option is to head to a junk yard, or look on craigslist/ebay for one. i can't even imagine what ford would want for a new one. but before i get another, i figured i'd check here to see if maybe there is some simple fix i am not aware of?
and if i have to replace it, what year escapes would have the correct mechanism for my 2001?
so about 2 days after making the original post i headed to the junkyard and got a replacement belt with mechanism. i put it in and everything has been fine for the past 4 weeks - until yesterday.
now the replacement belt is locking up just like the original one. WTF??? is this a known problem with escape belts (specifically the passenger front belt)? or did i happen to get the only 2 from the ford factory that ever had this problem?
