OK, gonna do the D0VE-C's and get them seated, ported, and a fresh shave.
With a stock bottom end (Mid-seventies)this should bump the compression up a bit. I was quoted $750 for the head work. With the heads at $150, that's not too bad for 900 bucks, plus gaskets, pushrods, and misc.

Wow. Sounds like the machine shop is really bending you over. Is that $750 for machine work, valves, guides, everything?
I am listening. Being relatively new here in Kansas, less than a year in fact, I have not made my normal connections and contacts yet. I don't really have a machine shop that I use and that was the first quote. The other quote is from Scott the head guy in Tacoma, WA (Re In Car Nation) that does great work but the package will be about $1650.
Do you know someone in and around KC area? I'll even travel if it gets me better work at a better price.
Depends on what that price comes with. Again, is that with new valves, seats springs, retainers, the whole nine yards, or strictly machine work? It's not too terrible if it comes with everything, but if its just machine work, I would take them elsewhere. I had a set of C8VE heads redone (cleaned, checked for cracks, new oversized hardened seats, guides, oversized valves, springs, retainers, etc) a few years back. I will see if I can find the bill, but it was no where near yours. I want to say with everything it was around 400-500, but I will have to look. I had mine done in Rolla, MO. Don't know of any other places.

That price was for everything but pushrods and gaskets. I will keep shopping to make sure I am not paying too much though. Appreciate your help on this one.
