That's what happens when one engineer says "we only need 3 threads in there" and everyone says; "you got it, you're the engineer". At least they caught it after a couple years.

Fix these all the time at the shop. I charge $200 if no coil $250 if coil needed. Honestly it takes about an hour, and costs about $50 in parts. Not sure how anyone gets more then that...

Check with the local parts stores and see if anyone rents the kits.

Probably could've just left it like that, but I didn't. I'd like to know if anyone else with a blown plug had a similar warning, since I have trouble visioning a plug simply yanking threads and all in one fell swoop.

Yep, I had the same warning. Sounded like a small exhaust leak just tick tick tickin away. Now I realize that was the timer on the plug waiting to blow.

Just checked my warranty and it ran out 11/30/14 but I was also over on the miles by about 5000 so I guess it sucks to be me. Since this is a van I think I'll let the dealer take care of it.

When are you heading in to the dealership, starrider? I'll be here if you need any help after your appointment.

I did all 10 with the Timesert kit. Bought it for $350, resold it for $300 plus $ 110 for the inserts. Didn't want to be on the road with a breakdown. Not hard, you do need some skills.

Working on cars and trucks my whole life and hearing drilling a head can be humbling and I have not had this happen and hopefully never will but check out this link, if you follow it exactly I dont see how you could mess it up and it cleared up the visual of what I visioned. My only concern is the life of the sleeve? Hope this helps some with this problem!!

The sleeve will outlast the rest of the truck.

Timesert, Cal-Van, and Lock-n-Stitch are all good. Helicoils and the Dorman kit are not.

Helicoils are for a static environment, not here.

Anyone know what year that Ford made the switch to plugs with more threads on the V-10 ?

I had heard it was sometime in the 2003 model year.
