Ford/MC Brake Pads

Will be doing at least front brakes on the 2011 this spring so its time to start watching prices and researching options. Looks like Motorcraft offers a couple different part numbers for my truck (2011 F150 4x4 with 6 lug hubs); does anybody know the differences? I am looking for a good quality pad with low dust and great performance in daily driving since I rarely tow anything other than the family.

Part numbers for MC I've found so far are:
MC Superduty BRSD-1414
MC BRF-7
MC Ford Retail Spec B-1414

Which would be ceramic vs. semi metallic and which would provide the best overall balance of performance (low dust/noise, high friction when hot and cold, good wear)?

If you're looking for OEM pads front and rear, TASCA has the fronts for $55 and the rears for $44 and they all include the clips and such.

I've had such great service from the high end pads from auto zone with the lifetime warranty that I'll likely install t hem on my 2011 when the time comes.

I would avoid ford brakes. My 2013 was nothing but trouble. Rotors turned 3 times by 16k miles. I decided to go with Hawk pads and rotors as I've had great luck with them on other vehicles. When I pulled the pads, they all had cracks and had pebbles embedded in them. The Hawks have been on for 12k miles and are awesome. No noise, stop better, perfect.

Wagner makes a great pad for the F150's. Semi-metallic with much less dust than MC pads. Rock Auto also has good prices on them.

the wagners are good. No real complaints with them.

Advance Auto Parts' Wearever Platinum have been my pick since they came out. So far i've used them on my Subaru, Explorer, and Expedition. For the same price as the Wagners, you get all the pad hardware included (on most models). Plus they are a Ceramic and create zero visible dust, even when used hard (towing) and have been dead-silent on everything so far. Just bed them in as per the directions on the box (it makes a big difference). These will be my go-to until they are no longer available.

happy shopping!

I had the same experience as bankshot with my 11'. I switch to a aftermarket pad from pepboys and had no more problems.

Hmmm I've run MC pads for years, and the only time I've had dust was when they were ready to be replaced.

I may have to re-think this now.

I did the pads and rotors on my 09' this summer. 65k on the factory parts and about 1/3 left on the pads. Bought the premium ceramics and rotors from local NAPA. With the mechanics and painters discount came to just under $180 with tax. Couldn't be happier with the performance pulling my trailer with 2.5k of logs and no trailer brakes. The dust problem was really bad with the stock pads and now the problem is gone almost completely. The pads came with the hardware and everything. At most NAPA stores all you have to do is ask for a discount and they will give it to you as long as you aren't asking at the same time how to replace the brakes. Old school AP store that likes dealing with folks that know what they are doing. Just my $.02

The 1 ton vans at work are outfitted with Napa brake parts and do very well. I should talk to the mechanics and see which line they use.

I have friends and relatives that are mechanics and they won't tell you that you pay for premium pads and they install the cheapest they can get. LIke I said , they won't tell you that. My SD 350 likes the Ford pads, but not the severe duty. The severe duty will burn up a set of rotors. I have heard great things about the Hawk pads. Thats what we run on our H1 Hummers in the Hummer Club. THey last the longest and stop our huge trucks better than other brands. Believe it or not, an H1 uses Jeep pads….

I've only used the Ford pads on my trucks. I'm happy enough with them I don't want to chance trying anything else.

Couldn't agree more. Had Napa ceramics on my SD before my new F150. No squealing, no dust. I'm going to be switching out the pads on this truck even though the oem pads have lots of life. I don't like the squealing every time I back out of my driveway and I'm not going to wait until they chew up a set of rotors.

That's what happened on my '06 F150. Besides the excessive dust, the pads trashed the rotors. When I changed rotors and pads I still had 1/2 of the pad left at 50,000 miles. I used Wagner ThermoQuiet pads and Advance Auto Parts Wearever rotors. In 15000 miles I had the truck after the brake job there was no visible dust, no squeaks, and good clamping power. My '05 and my '08 SD does not give off the dust that the F150 pads did even when towing.

My 350 ate aftermarket like a snack. City driving, no load, just heavy truck. Could warp a aftermarket rotor in few months (most warps are not an actual warp of the rotor out of round...for those that don't know, build up of material usually stuck to rotor, high spots make it feel like warp). Ford rotors never warped (got build up). Ford pads would last two years instead of one usually too.

Cant speak for these 150's
