I'm rebuilding my '87 F250 Laredo with a highly modified 5.8 liter engine and a ZF S5 42 transmission. I have several questions that one of you might know the answers to: First, will the transfer case from my old C-6 transmission fit on the new ZF? Second, will the cross members from the old C-6 work with the ZF? What all do I need to support the 5.8 liter engine and ZF transmission? Third, what is the length difference between the 460 with the C-6 and the 351 with the ZF? Will I need to machine the drive shaft?
Not sure in crossmember location but that's not hard to alter.
Driveshaft length, beats me. I doubt it's going to stop you from doing the swap, so either someone will know, or you'll figure it out at the end of your swap.
If the old engine was a 460, then it has the dual bolt hole frame mounts. I'm not sure that it's compatible with the single bolt mount of the 351, so you may need new frame mounts. Otherwise, the crossmember for trans only needs a few holes to move it where it belongs.
