V8 AWD vs 4WD

Did Ford ever make a V8 Explorer with 4WD or have they all been AWD only?

Ford didn't ever put a 4WD transfer case behind the V8 in the explorer. In the V8, they either put no t-case (2WD) or the AWD t-case. I've heard of people putting a 4WD t-case in after the fact, but Ford didn't do it.

V8 AWD vs 4WD

Not sure about prior to 2002, but my 2002 Explorer V8 has 4WD, and the 2003 has the option of either AWD or 4WD.

V8 AWD vs 4WD

Before the redesign in 02, the V8 could only be had with rear-wheel drive or AWD. Starting in 02, you could get rear-wheel drive or Control-Trac 4WD with the V8. They added the option of AWD to them in 03 (but you can still opt for the Control-Trac.).
