Does anyone know the 'ballpark' figure for the amount of time it takes to receive a new truck if you order it at the dealer? I'll be ordering a new 2004 F-150 next spring (most likely in May). I want to make sure I figure in enough time to order it so I get it when I expect it. I'm hoping it happens pretty quick...the whole ordering process.
The reason I think I will be ordering it is because I don't see hardly any (none so far) 8' bed super cabs at the dealers. I figured I might have to order it to get what I want. I'll be adding other options too...which most likely won't be on the standard trucks the dealer chose to stock.
Folllow-up question: Auto loans through Ford...are they the type of loans where you can pay off the loan faster and pay less interest, like you can with a home loan?...and without a penalty of any sort? Right now, I'm thinking the home equity loan is the best way to go since we can write off the interest on our taxes. The loan would be paid off in less than a year so I don't think the interest issue is a big deal unless with the auto loan you have to pay all the interest no matter how fast you pay it off. That's what I didn't know. Anyone know?
I will also be ordering a F350 supercab 8' bed, so I will be interested in hearing the answer to your question.
I have prepaid every car loan that I have taken out and never been charged a penalty for doing so. I think it depends on how you prepay it. I take out a 60 month loan, then pay it back in the largest installments that I can afford. This reduces the interest paid and the term of the loan. However, if you made minimum payments and then gave them a big check in month 11, you could possibly have more issues. It would depend on the contract and I have no experience in paying loans in that manner.
I will not take out a home loan for anything other than a home.
Just my personal bias on that one.
Ford Motor Credit doesn't charge extra for paying off early. You just call for a payoff and you have 10 days to get it to them. This was my experience with an '01 SuperCrew.
I ordered an '04 SD on July 1 and still don't have a build date yet. I was told I'd have the truck 6 - 8 weeks after the order was confirmed. That doesn't appear to be the case... I'm trying to find the answer to that question myself. AFA using Ford Credit for your loan, I have had and paid off 4 loans using Ford Credit and there is no penalty for pre-paying the loan. However, MAKE SURE YOU GET A LOAN PAYOFF LETTER if you pay off early. We paid my wife's car off early and there was apparantly .47 cents of interest accrued after we paid it off and they dinged her credit with a late charge, even after paying it off 2 years early...!

Thanks for your help.
You're right- Supercabs with an 8' bed are a rare breed at a dealership. You aren't seeing any now because NO DEALERS have 2004s at this point. There are some built, but the plants are holding them till the end of August. Normally, you'd be looking at 6-8 weeks. However, there can be certain options/ colors/ trims that are hard to get (Ford refers to them as "commodity issues") at certain times, so it may take longer depending on what you want. Your dealer will be able to tell you when you order it if there are any potential hold-ups with your order.

This can vary from state to state, but generally speaking, there is no penalty for paying off the loan early. You will always pay a little more interest on the first few payments than the last few, but in no case should you have to pay ALL the interest- there will be a portion that gets refunded to you. How much you get back depends on when you pay it off. Ask the dealer for a copy of the loan contract before you buy- by law they must give you a copy if you ask for it. There should be a paragraph (always on the front side here in New York State) that tells you if there are any penalties for pre-payment.

Well that is not an accurate statement. My 2004 F350 is currently being released from the Rail Yard to my dealer. I should take posession Sunday or Monday at the latest.
I think I may stick with the 6 1/2' bed instead of the 8' if I get a super cab. I saw a Dodge extended cab with an 8' bed and something about it just looked odd to me...being that long. It just didn't look right. Since I won't be using it for a lot of hauling, I will be satisfied with the shorter bed. I might even get the super crew if I can get my wife to agree to spend that much. That would be an even shorter bed, but I'm sure I'll be using the cab more than the bed.
I should have been a little clearer. Since lariartf150 was looking to buy a 150, that's what I was referring to. Yes, 2004 Superdutys are out there on the lots; in fact, I have 2 of them. But you will not find any 2004 F-150s at this point.
I ordered our 250 CC 4X4 short bed with v-10 the last week of Nov last year. Ford confirmed the order for build in mid Dec and because of the Christmas shutdown the truck wasn't built until the 2nd to 3rd week of Jan. I took delivery the 2nd week of Feb. I wasn't in a big hurry for it so the time was no problem here. the truck came as ordered and I got a good deal as well. Just my .02 worth.
I talked with my dealer last week. Stated that if I wanted to build an '04 PSD 350SD, it would take 6-8 weeks to get it. This is in Little Rock Arkansas.
I ordered my 2003 F-350 Lariat centennial crew cab fx4 the end of May and it went into production on June 2, 2003 and was at the dealer on June 13, 2003 is that fast enough for you?
