I just picked up a 1979 F250 crew cab and need to replace the sending unit. Truck has a 460 auto trans 2wd and came with two tanks. The rear tank has long ago been removed but when searching for a new sending unit all i could seem to find was one for the rear tank after the axle. Any ideas on where to get one for the front tank? Or is it the same? Also anyone know what size tank the front one is?
I'm looking at the LMC Truck catalogue and it shows a side tank for the '79 F-250, 2WD reg. cab, and 4WD F250 crew cab, at 20.2 gal., at $159,95
The sending units they show for the '79 steel side tank, 2WD reg. cab, & 4WD crew cab, are $49.95
Hope this helps.
Ed
Tank capacity seems to vary. The 79 F150 i had was sporting 2 tanks....19gal in the rear and 26gal for the forward tank. Your forward tank should be in that range. Im my opinion, the only way to find out is fill it up. (If your able to). My 76 F-350 has 2 tanks and Im guessing they are pretty close to what my 79 was for capacity.
