diffrence in gas?

Well I've had gas tanks full of sludge buildup from the crap. The one in my Jeep was like that, had to clean it with a wire wheel! It wasn't rust, just sludge that had the distinct smell of ethinol.
If you run more than a 10% in a vehicle not designed for it, the stuff eats up rubber in the fuel system.

How often did a carb need to be rebuilt on a small engine (lawnmower, snowblower, etc) 15 years ago? Almost never.
How often do they have to be rebuilt now? Every year if you leave fuel in them.
I don't think the effect is nearly as pronounced in big engines, like cars, but there has to be some residual effect. Newer engines are designed with this stuff in mind but run an old vehicle, especially one with a carb, and it will let you know how bad ethanol is.

I ran E85 in my '00 Silverado for at least 50K miles, E30 in my supercharged Pontiac GTP, and 50% ethanol (half 87-octane gas with 15% ethanol and half E85) in my H3 Hummer and V-10 Excursion... and none of them are "flex-fuel" vehicles.

Can we just not all agree that it's a little ignorant to put food in fuel? Seriously, problems (real or not) aside people are starving here in the US.... THE ****ING US! Were driving around on their empty stomachs!!! Just put the gas back the way it was, ****.
