have a shared project with my buddy - a 71 F100, and the turn signals are going wonky on us. The only one that works is right rear, but the emergency flashers and brake lights work like a million bucks. What could be the issue? I thought that all of that ran off the same circuit?
Flashers and turn signals are on separate switches. If the flashers work, wiring, housings and bulbs are good. Sounds like the turn signal switch in the column is bad.
1. Remove the negative battery terminal.
2. Remove the horn button.
3. Remove the horn contact spring from the steering wheel and put in a safe place (like the ash tray)
4. Remove the steering wheel.
5. Clean the contacts in the switch with some 1000 - 2000 grit sand paper.
6. Reinstall parts.
The only reason to replace the switch IMHO, is because the return cam is busted off or the wires are bad/hacked. Otherwise, it's simply a contact cleaning.
