Hi, my battery was dead today and I realized my alternator isn't giving my battery a charge. I have heard that alternators from some Mustangs will work as a replacement and will work better than those designed for the 351W. Any advise on what alternator to go with? Thank you for the help.
*Probably the best one if you can get it (should be easy to find, too) is
off the E/F series...this series uses a threaded top ear like the stocker on
the Mustang....E/F series with threaded ear uses metric bolt. ALSO, make
sure the E/F series is 130 Amps and NOT 95. For all other cars listed
above 130A is only option listed.
I run a late 80's externally regulated 130 amp alternator on mine (only because it was a freebie with my 5.0). It works great, keeps up with my winch and the headlights have never been brighter.
Thanks for the advise. I decided to go with an original style alternator. They were $150 less than the newer style alternators and didn't require any wiring mods. 60 amps does seem kind of weak compared with the 130 amp new style but I don't really need the extra amps right now as I am not running any aux lights or a winch. I will probably go with a dual battery setup after I put my lights on, will the orig. alternator be sufficient to charge the dual batts?
