when you turn the key to start my truck nothing happens it just kinda sits there, not a click of a solenoid or anything. the guy at the transmision shop said that it was the nuetral starter switch so i replaced that and still nothing. it'll start if you wiggle the living hell outa the gear shifter for like 30 mins but id rather just jump the solenoid and get it started than do that. what do i need to do to get my truck starting properly???
Sounds like a similar problem I had with my '89. If it's an auto, there is an actuating fork in the column that can break and cause several problems. When mine broke I was unable to shift from park without "jiggling" and . Then I started having problems starting. You have to pull the steering wheel and get in under the dash. I had a shop do mine as I was out of town on a job and the motels tend to frown on me "wrenching" in their parking lot. Just a side note, while you have the wheel off check the turn signal cam assy before you put it back together, after a few years they get brittle and then cause the signals to start acting up.
Hope this helps.

Hey thanks!
If I sold it to you I'd just have to find another one, besides, mine has 300,000 miles on it. If you really want one there are a few up for sale, '90-'95. Just go to the Centurion group link at the bottom of my post.
If you have the steeringwheel off, if I remember correctly, you should be able to pull the turn signal cam assy. out of the way and see the top of the actuator fork. I'm going from memory here so don't hold me to that, but on mine you could see down into the column and inspect most of the actuator.
Good Luck and keep me posted.

me and my friends were looking at it and we figured we can just bypass the whole thing by putting push button start on. so thats what im going to try to do as soon as i finish typing this. i figure i have the brains not to start my truck while its in gear and i dont think it will hurt anything else.
If the actuator is actually broken it may soon break off completely and then you will not be able to turn the ign. switch off or on. You could then unbolt the switch and let it hang loose under the dash. Run it with a screw driver. Won't even need a key anymore.
