Broken Fuel Filter Quick Connect - here's my thoughts

Okay, so my 2005 F250 is getting a major service as we speak

First time in a long time I'm paying someone to wrench on my truck , I'm trying the my time is worth more approach once , as well as I honestly don't have time and I need to get it done

I'm cringing every time I think about it, visions of pipe wrenches and hammers all running through my head

Anyhow , the guy calls me back and says he went to swap the fuel filter , and backed away as the QD fitting on the fuel tank side is embrittled and will most likely break apart if he tries to push the tool in...and he is not a fan of the doorman/Napa style repair kits, which I agree with

So...I am wondering if rather than reace the latest line, if I should umb in a spin on filter/water separator- like the diesels

PermaCool has a kit - 2 microns and 100 psi burst
Can be had in 1/4" and 1/2" inlet/outlet
Does anyone know the factory GPH and PSI rates at the filter , or from the pump?

I thought of plumbing in a filter/separator from a diesel as well, the 6.4 filter is 4 micron , but I'm not sure if those elements are gas rated ... The perms cool specifically states all fuel types, so I'm guessing diesel filters could be used I. Reg gas applications as well

Anyone see problems with my idea?

Thanks

Not sure what to make of putting a diesel filter on a gas engine.

How "free flow" is the diesel filter compared to the gas filter?

Thanks for the fix, not sure on the diesel filter either

I think I'm going to use a repair kit for now - I've got enough projects

Does the attached look like the right fix?

I don't have the truck back yet, but my memory is that there is a rubber tubing coupler before the quick disconnect - I hope I can just clip off the factory QD and replace with this one and hose clamp - I'll need to test the filter into the new coupler QD first of course

Anyone have experience with this issue?
