I had my truck in for an alignment and tire rotation at a car dealership across the street. The service dept manager told me he worked for ford for 20 years in a service dept, and he told me my transmission needed a new solenoid. My symptoms are when I first put it in reverse and drive, it takes a few seconds to get going. Once it warms up, everything works great. No overdrive light blinking or anything like that. Last time it did this was a little over a year ago, I flushed the trans fluid, and it ran amazing. Anyway, he told me I needed a solenoid that moves the ***** around the trans. He said when they get older they gum up and have a hard time moving the *****, especially when cold. I don't have the greatest knowledge of this stuff, hence why I'm on here, but I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction as far as what to order and how to install.
Thanks!!

He's making that up. There is no solenoid that moves the ***** around. I would never set foot in that place again. They seem to be as crooked as a $3 bill.
This is why I came on here to make sure everything was straightened out. The thing is he didnt want to sell me anything, just told me what his experience was working at the dealership. He said I should take it to a Ford dealer and they will be able to tell me exactly what solenoid it needed.
My question is this. Last year it was doing this exact same thing. I got a flush, and it fixed everything. It ran amazing for about 11 months, then slowly starting doing this again. Any suggestions?

how do we know or not know that if you just do a nother fluid change it will again run amazing?

I was actually just thinking of doing this. I wanted to check on here first because I would rather get the solenoid and have the problem fixed, than doing another flush which I feel is just a temporary fix. I am probably just going to do another flush and see what happens if I can't get a diagnosis.
