my 81 f100 just started a new trick that I don't like.i put it 4th gear it and it bucks and viberates i checked the universals and they are good the only thing I have found is some slop in the yoke on the rear end.... 1st thru 3rd are normal
It is possible that you have an ignition problem. High load at low RPM puts max stress on the ignition components, so if something is failing, like plugs, plug wires, rotor, or dizzy cap that's when it would do it.
Try winding it up a bit more before you shift into 4th and see if it does it. The ignition scenario rears its head, as Jim suggested, when you are lugging it.
