2011 headlights not working

2011 headlights not working
Hello, I just bought this 2011 transit connect van. I went to home depot and when I came out it was dark. I turned on the van and noticed, what i thought was the day time running lights on but not the dash. I turned the light **** on and the headlights went off and the dash and running lights came on....
I got out and looked at the headlights,
When the lights were OFF the headlights were on.
When the lights were ON the headlights were off. The daytime running lights were on with the running lights.
Upon inspection before buying this van we noticed the reverse lights and lower taillights did not work. The dealer changed some switch or ??? and now they work. Is it possible something got switched around? Where would I check to see whats going on?
