Here's a basic question. Is a 289/302 intake interchangeable with a 351w? Or is the 351w specific? I'm rebuilding a 2v 351w in a 1985 F150 and want to go to a 4v. I'm looking at 4v intakes and don't want to buy the wrong one. Thanks for any help!
351W intake is unique to the 351W only. It is WIDER and so is the engine block itself than the 221,260,289 and 302 blocks. It is wider due to the taller deck height to accommodate for the 3.5" stroke the 351W has.
A very good idea. Btw, what are your plans for this engine? Windsors are great engines with lots of specific builds out there. My Nissan is getting a 427W.
Sorry for the slow reply. It's just going to be a driver, nothing special, maybe an "rv" cam but that's it.
Ok, so a mild rebuild with a low-rpm cam. I recommend a small carb, either a factory 4100 series or the Street Demon. The 625 is about right for 351cid. A good option is to install some kind of overdrive in it. If you are towing, the ZF is good. If you just want to cruise, a WC T5 will be fine. You can find those easy.
For cams, I have a Comp XE250H in it and really like it. Smooth, super strong low end torque and fuel economy averages .5 MPG better than the 252H it replaced.
