Code p2617

2006 6.0L with 192k miles. Stock except blue spring and coolant filter.
Cold starts @40*lately have been rough. This AM it would hit within 2 sec but not run, did this about 8 times. Said my thank yous and walked away. Crawled back @15 min later talking better and she fired up but very rough. Let her sit a few min and headed down the road. Within a mile she leveled out. Checked the scan gage and the ficm dropped to 35 but within a mile was back bouncing from 47-48v. Was running on the battery for about two miles then the alt jumper in @14.1v's then settled in at 13.7 v's. Another mile CEL kicked on with p2617. Tried to clear with no success.
Did a FTE search for p2617 code "camshaft position output ckt open"
Plan to replace the ficm soonest.
What is the story on p2617?
Thanks

If you can not clear the code then you more then likely have a bad sensor or a wiring issue. You need to figure that out first.

Check the charging system on the truck and load test the batteries at your favorite parts store.

The FICM is toast if the charging system is in good order. If the charging system is bad, then your FICM is still toast.

You can get a 2617 from an engine "stall" event also--a false code, if you will.

As already stated, with the FICM at 35V it's already toast and needs to go to Ed @ Ficmrepair.com. The charging system and batteries still need tested as low voltage can kill the FICM.

Well ain't that nice, with all the codes to be concerned about they throw in a false code
Do you know why the code will not clear on my Scangage II?
Thanks

Yes sir, took her to my favorite Tech yesterday and picked her up this AM.
Replaced the power side of the ficm cleared the p2617 code. Said the code was insignificant. Ran her home about 20 miles. Pumping out 49V nonstop.
Called the local Ford dealer for a quote and got $766 plus 7%!tax with a two year warranty. I paid $428. One year warranty.
We are both happy
Thanks
