Question for those with T4 mounts

Hey guys,
Quick question for those who run (or have made) a T4 mount. My understanding is that the 1/2 thick plate/bracket that the turbo bolts to is about 7 inches tall. With a S366, is it possible to lower the turbo some (to have a bracket 6 inches tall), and have turbo a little closer to the motor? Not sure how much clearance there is underneath the compressor housing?

I'm assuming that 7 inches is a little taller than need be so that a 400 series turbo can be used on the same mount, but just not sure if an inch could be spared... Will be piecing together a T4 mount myself, and have 6x6 1/2 thick angle iron, thought I might get away with using it as the 'L' bracket the turbo mounts to.

Truck will not be getting a larger turbo in the future. Thanks guys,
-Andrew

The compressor housing would be really close if you dropped it an inch, but the real problem you would run into is, unless you completely removed the CCV dog house from the driver side valve cover, you wouldn't be able to get the intake on the turbo. The S366 takes a 4" boot. I barely had enough room to get mine over the dog house. If you drop it an inch there would be no way.

Thanks Bill, that's all I need to know! I'll just stick with the original 7 inch height plans!

As a rule, I try not to disagree with bill as he's almost always right, but my s366 t4 mount is def not 7" high. Now, I haven't hooked the intake up yet, but I just assumed there'd be a silicone 45 or 60 degree elbow that would work for me. It doesn't look like it's too close to the doghouse now.

I also have my mount angled back and to the passenger side a bit. I have pics in my entime rebuild thread. What I don't have pics posted of yet though is that the 4" DP actually did clear the head pretty well.

I'll have to check on the intake routing and report back, though!

I'd have to go measure mine to say if it was for sure 7" now you said that! LOL! I can't remember! I think in my thread Darin listed the measurements for me. I'll find it and see.

I looked at my thread and 7" is the measurement Darin gave on that. I'm sure that's what I made then.

Or move the valve covers to opposite sides...adding oil might be inconvenient but I use my long funnel on most anyway.then also a breather setup pulling crankcase crap into the do would be much easier plumbed..

I was going to say in a custom set-up, mock it up and see how low you can go.
I know on my first set of twins I smashed the breather a bit to get the intake to work, but the one charger was only going to fit int here one way and it was that or nothing.
Just make it work.
Also, the lower you go the more difficult it is to get the turbo oil drain to work. I don't mean the actual draining of the oil but rather the parts used to make the drain. It's something I fought with for years. Sounds simple enough until you start to put the pieces together and see how challenging it is to work the fittings and larger diameter lines into a little tight space.
Anyway, good luck, hope it works out for you.

Good points thanks Jim, I had considered the large AN fittings on the return line and the amount of space needed. One I get the baseplate cut out, I'll mock it up with the turbo on there and see how it looks.

Rookie question, The T4 mount flange is 90° to the pedestal mount plane?

Thanks. I haven't looked at T4 mounted turbos too much. 90° seemed almost too easy if you know what I mean.
