Currently own a CRT television and just purchased a large screen 'smart' type; Samsung, and a A/V receiver. This ole timer has not kept up with these new hi-tech contraptions and somewhat dependent on suggestions by sales person. After purchase ask for suggestion on cable routing for best performance and advised to run all accessory components; Blu Ray, Roku, Computer, etc. directly to the A/V receiver, and then a single HDMI cable from AV receiver to the T.V. Subsequently made the mistake of asking a 2nd sales person same question and was told the opposite; i.e., run all components thru Television and then a single HDMI to the AV?? In effort to get more confused thought I would check w/ knowledgeable members for suggestions, comments. Oh, found the owner's manual useless, did not find it helpful what so ever. Not clear about the feature, 'airplay', which I believe offers information but seems to me need to know how to hook up before able to use the function?? Again, appreciate any comments, suggestions!
I would run everything to the A/V receiver if you can. Use a single HDMI from the TV to the receiver and then use a Harmony or whatever remote you want to do the controls.
Does hte A/V receiver have enough HDMI inputs for your components?

Greatly appreciate the prompt response. Purchased a Pioneer 'elite' VSX44 which later appears not among the better A/V receivers?? It does have 5 designated HDMI outlets, Ethernet connection, and a few other interesting outlets I will have to become familiar with. This is very helpful. I ran a cable routing sys. behind the wall so now I know the type, length, and number of cables it will require to install the system. Again, appreciate the help.
Verizon provided my cables from my box to my new t.v. I, like you have no clue, but I can tell you it was a whole bunch of connections.
The TV also has blue tooth to the router, which the tech set up while he was here
I am going to try the 'do it myself' installation and I believe a 'how to' dvd is included in the package. I figure for what the cable co. is charging, if need be, I will use the phone tech line until I have the system up and running. Do not have a clue when it comes to linking the various components together; I have 4 controls to operate my current system but understand I can us T.V. "IR" attachment to get the various components to talk to each other, not sure yet whether I have the option of using either the A/V control, T.V. control, or required to purchase a Universal. Thank you for the information, greatly appreciated.
