I have a 02 f-150 Super Crew 5.4 Triton w/tow package rated for a 8300lb trailer. My new RV weighs approx. 9300lbs, I have a weight distributing hitch. I only pull this trailer 4-5 times a year on 30-50 mile round trips, all on flat ground. (No hills). Should I bite the bullet & upgrade to a f-250? Truck handles trailer fine. Just wondering about long term problems.
Look on page 195 of your owner manual.
It gives the total gross combined weight rating for your truck.
Find the line that is your equipage to see this weight rating.
I suspect you would be over the limit.
Don't just go by the trailer weight alone because it can be misleading.
It's up to you what you do.
Good luck.
They are rated not by the ability to pull down the road, but the ability to handle the load under emergency situations. If someone were to cut you off, or you should simply blow a tire, would the truck handle that?
GROB... I have a similar situation. Only pull a 10K car trailer about 20 miles, 5 times a year. Have done it for 1 year so far. Good brakes on the trailer and good tires to handle the load... Im thinking it will be fine... Just pay attention to what your doing.
