How easy is it to replace an EGR valve on my `97 Explorer ? It`s throwing that code on the OBD II scanner, and I need to replace it. The dealer tells me I need to really clean out the whole system for the deposit that gets down in there. Can any one tell me more about this ? PLEASE !!~~~
(exactly where is it located ?)

Which 97 setup do you have, the external or the internal EGR? Both are a PITA to do.
By the way, thanks fo rthe compliments in the other thread (didn't want to take it over by us talking ). I did my Eaton install, and everything else done, by myself. I am very cautious about who I let work on my rides. What kind of info are you looking for?
As far as my wheels, they are Cobra R's - 17x9 with Michellin 255/60/17 rubber. They are going to become my summer wheels pretty soon. I am getting another set of Cobra R's and putting some winter tires on them (just moved to Salt Lake City UT).
I have the external EGR. On the outside of the air intake plenum. It`s fine now, but it was frozen shut when I took it off two weeks ago. It hauls *** now , and runs so much more smooth... (thanks Cobra, for help (still want to chat wit ya , when we are on at the same time) C-Ya guys !
The exhaust gas recirculation system has three componants.
1.the EGR valve
2 the DPFE sensor
The dpfe senses the amount of exhaust gas recirculating by reading the pressure drop across a small venturi connected between the egr vale and the intake manifold.
Most times when the pcm starts throwing a EGR error code it is the dpfe sensor that is not working.
the dpfe is also bolted on the outside of the engine near the egr valve. it has a small electrical connector and two pnuematic (rubber vacuum) lines comming out of it and takes about 1 minute to change
