I was wondering if an f1 tailgate with the old ford script would fit on to my 55 f100... I am wanting to use the old script for my truck. If not I will just have someone airbrush it on for me just curious..

My 51 had a mid 50s tailgate on it when I got it. The switch should go the other way too.

 

Size wise, it will physically fit. The latching system is different. There's two different latching styles for the script gates; 48-early 50 and late 50-52. The 53 and later is different still, but more similar to the later script gate. The later gate will be easier to make work.

 

regading the latching, I just picked up a tail gate for my 51 that is the same size but the tabs for the chains are riveted inside the upper tube instead of below the tube.
Is this factory for maybe an earlier Ford? It has the same three panels with the ford script in the center.

 

Yes, that is the early style, used on the raised side panel style bed from 42-50.
