Overheating Issue
WE have just recently purchased our truck (not sure if I'm in the right area here but I'll give it a go) it's a F250 Powerstroke Diesel 7.3L 2006 model. I am told that the year models here in Aus are older then the US?? Go figure! But we have recently had overheating problems, it happened all of a sudden when I was towing our van, fairly hot day and has been a problem ever since. We have had it looked at by the Mechanics but they are scratching their heads too, hubby is very mechanically minded but we hesitate to do our own work on it because we have had little to do with these motors. We have had the Fan Hub replaced, a new thermostat put in, we have checked the tranny oil no burnt smell or discolouration, checked the injectors, no bubbles, hoses seem to be okay. Love our truck but they are so expensive over here they are not too common, thought I would throw it out to the experts.

Your initial overheating issue may have been a stuck thermostat, and replacing it may have corrected it, however, it's real easy to get the wrong replacement thermostat.
You need what is known as a "long stem", and they are specific to this engine. If you got the short one, the engine will continue to overheat.
