injector nozzle size - e-fuel postfilter size?

quick question - i'm spec'ing my filters for my efuel system now and though it would make sense have the post-filter micron rating at or below the nozzle diameter size of the injector.

anyone know this nozzle diameter size off hand? ehem! Jim?

I just got the filters everybody else is using..I'm a lush really. I have a feeling the mic of the filtration is far smaller than the nozzle diameter.

I'm just going by memory here but I believe the stock filters are like 10 or 12 micron. There's a lot of stock systems still working today so I would say you would be good with anything 10 micron absolute or smaller

The filters I used for both my e-fuel set ups were a Wix 33367, 30 micron pre-pump filter with the water seperater, and a Wix 33528, 2 micron post pump filter. On this last filter change though I went with a Wix 33405, 14 micron pre-pump filter with the water seperater and the same 2 micron post pump. My thought was the 30 micron was letting too much through and the 2 micron was catching it all and clogging sooner. I'm thinking the 14 micron pre-pump will take some of the load off the 2 micron and maybe go a little longer on filter changes. Just an experiment really. I was having a fuel pressure drop issue when under load, and this seemed to help as of right now. They have only been on there a week so far though.

I went with the same micron ratings as bill started with but they are the donaldson equivalent.

Bill when you changed the pre filter did you do the post as well. A 2 micron is pretty small and I believe most 30 mic are not 98% efficiency like the 2's allowing some larger particles through. When I was looking at filter setups most guys thought the 30 mic plugged sooner than the 2

Ok, am I missing something here? Why not use the micron rating that Ford used in the stock filter? Fuel filtration or lack there of hasn't been an issue on these has it? Or are you running injectors w modded plungers, barrels, tips etc......?
Or am I missing the point all together? Maybe your fuel system is moving massive ammounts more...?

I'll take a stab at this. I think it's really just more "because you can" than anything. The fuel system has now been upgraded and those of us running E-Fuel have the Napa bases that allow for upgraded fuel filtration. Now it's just figuring out which combo works best. I have not had issues with mine yet that I can tell, but I am still going to go to a different water separator when I change them before my trip.

How often do you guys have to change the 2 micron filters and how often do you drain the water separator?

I never have drained my water separator filter. I don't know how long they will go because I change mine once a year before I head out on the summer trip. About 12K on them at that time.

Funny, I got antsy a spec'd my filter setup based on google searches. ...and came up with the 30 mic prefilter and 2 mic post! Good for me :-)

Your post makes a lot of sense though bill. I was wondering if there'd be a pressure drop when the injectors are really flowing. But then again that filter (I went with the Baldwin one) is friggin huge, right? Lots of surface area to let fuel through.

I guess the other factor is the fuel pump (or pumps). Are you running one or two in parallel bill? I plan on just one, but bucked up for the Bosch. I figure if I see a pressure drop, I'll add another one maybe.

Are you using the cross to a caterpillar filter. If so I doubt you will demand too much fuel for the filter to handle it unless it is getting plugged

I'm only running one pump, but the mount I made is set up to run two pumps. I'm running an aftermarket replacement pump from Rockauto, but I plan on upgrading that when/if this one gives me trouble. Everything I did when I did this build I was on a real tight budget. If the fuel pressure drop issue returns, then I may look at upgrading the single pump sooner than later, and if it is still a problem, then I may go to dual pumps and upgrade my regulator to an Aeromotive. Like I said, it was all just an experiment on a tight budget, so I'll just have to see how things work and hold up.

Phil, I drain mine just whenever I think about it honestly. I haven't been too OCD about it like I usually am. I drained it last week when I was having the missing problem at WOT, but fuel came out clear and had no water, sooo I dunno. I was starting to wonder if you can see water in fuel just because I though there has to be a little in their anyways, but there didn't seem to be.
