Got a new Motorcraft Max 850 CCA battery

The 3 year old Nationwide had 12.1 volts (engine off) and 11.6 with the door open, plus it just didn't have that same cranking sound at 30* so I thought I would treat myself to a new one for $153 at O'Reillys (yes they went up). I bought the Nationwide for $20 new at a garage sale 3 years ago (unknown amps). Now I won't have to worry when I am 5 miles out in the sticks with my snowmobile. This one cranks like gangbusters at 30*, and the amps are 1,000 at 32* on these.

Nice, my local Ford dealer doesn't carry the 850's.

When I bought mine I was happy to see that the dealer had just put a new motorcraft unit in. I won't have to worry about that for a good while. Every Motorcraft battery I've had has lasted ~8 years.

Not a bad price there Brent. I've been thinking about doing the same before it gets any colder, mine struggled through the months of sub zero temps last winter. Nothing worse than a no start at -5 below.

The high amp one's like this are better for cold climates. Your starter will only draw the amps it needs but it might just need all of them in very cold weather. It cranks over at 30* like it was 70* now.....a reassuring feeling.

Glad you got fixed up Brent!

The Autozones around me have stopped carrying the Duralast Gold 1000 cranking amp batteries in favor of the 750 amp version. Their reasoning is that since we live in the south, it doesn't get cold enough to require 1000 cranking amps. I had a defective one on my 7.3 Excursion and they tried to swap me into a 750 amp battery when I paid for 1000 amps.

I wasn't about to have mis-matched batteries, so after almost having to use my size to my advantage (do the math, I'm 6ft 6in and just under 400 pounds and not very nice when I'm pissed) I went to another Autozone and they got me the 1000 amp battery I paid for.

Sounds like my experiences with repair shops, I hate for it to come down to that but at the same time I hate getting burnt (only 6'1" and 225 pounds).

Not a good price. Ford suggested retail on that battery is $129.95.

What do mean when? The BXT65-650 battery has had a retail price of $129.95 for the past year. Most other Ford batteries retail for $119.95.

Check your dealer every once in a while. Sometimes we are cheaper.

But they just went up and the nearest dealer is 55 miles away, plus they have a 3 year total replacement and I like to keep it local in case I need that option. My last battery lasted 2 months short of 3 years.

Only local store with them here is $154 - Amazon has them for $180.

Ford's price hasn't gone up. And the three year free replacement is Ford's plus 100 month prorated. I understand not wanting to drive to get the battery in our gas hogs. I am just stating what Ford's retail price at the dealer is. And I will also mention if the battery is installed at a Ford dealer and there is an issue with that battery, Ford will pay for towing to the nearest dealer.
