Regen Notification

Just picked up my 2015 DRW from the dealer yesterday. Drove it home 175 miles. Really impressive when comparing to my old 2003. How will I know when a regen occurs?
Thanks,
Skip

Skip,
There will be a brief flash on the information screen on the instrument panel that says "cleaning exhaust filter" on an orange back ground. It doesn't stay up for long, maybe two seconds. You can then monitor the instant fuel mileage screen (green fluctuating scale with the average mpg on it) the green scale will drop to around 10 mpg during cleaning them return to normal average 17 -20 mpg. Mine didn't do it for about 500 miles the first time, now around 400 between unless towing.

Def is a non issue. Drive it like you stole it. Don't add an Def until you get the half full message (you can check that on the message screen under the bottom option) so people have issues with it not resetting then giving them hassles when they top it off all the time just because they want to "make sure". I fill at oil changes around 6-7k miles. Pull hard when you can and it'll stay clean by itself.

Read the tech folder and download the coffee table book on the 6.7. It will help lot with explaining the EGR/HPFP/DPF and the SCR systems.

For def I don't fill till I get the 200 miles till empty message. Then do a complete fill. You will have fewer problems that way. The def should last around 4500-5K if you tow a lot.

Tow a lot and you will have few regens. But use more def.

Tow a little and you will have more regens but won't use def.

I topped mine off well below 1000 miles, just to see. It took all but about a pint of a 2.5 gallon jug. Clearly they did not top off the tank when I bought it.

Unless you are sure it was completely full when you picked it up, you might want to top it off now if you want a baseline from which to calculate usage.

Yep, for DEF wait until the x till empty message appears. My 2011 begins alerting at 800 MTE. Apparently the new ones alert at 500?
I go as long as I can until I'm tired of answering the message each time.

Yep - Older ones are 800 MTE and new ones are 500 MTE. I filled all the time and never had an issue... For some reason, even though I didn't pull alot, I still used DEF at the rate of around 800 -1000 miles per gallon.

I agree, DEF is a non-issue... Just don't put DEF in the fuel tank and don't put fuel in the DEF tank. So pay attention when fueling or adding DEF and all is good.

And you can also tell the first few times it regens by the burning smell especially when you stop.

Do you park it in a garage? If so, don't let that burning smell panic you if you pull it in during or just after a regen.
