CONGRATS WALSTON!

Seems Hawaii would be a good place for an old truck, no salt like here in the mid-west. We are discussing a trip your way this winter. Which island is the best to go to?

Hah, surely you jest? "No salt"? No salt from the roads, like in winter, but we get ours all year around, from the air. Most everything here rusts from the top down.
No Wally, there is none of the islands better for finding any older rust free vehicles, and if you do find one, it probably will be priced in outer space. I am going to have to do some research to see just how many fridges there actually are still alive (or parked) on all the islands. We have a few 58 - 60's on Oahu, where I am, and I think (but no proof yet) I may have the only, or at least never seen or heard of 57's.
More than likely any rust free were either imported from somewhere on the mainland US, or has been bodyworked to cover what was bad on them. Truth be told, even the original cab on my 57 had rust bad on the gutters, all three sides, and that was plastered with roofing patch all over it. That one is gone and I have another one on it, from Washington state, that has proven to be rusted but not as bad. That will be repairable. At least it is all under cover (see my avatar pic)
I would love to have found one like that blue 58 just posted by "airborn 406". Clean.
Aloha.

man, I have seen some trucks in HI that were rusted all the way up to the bed rails...you could see the outside of the bed through the fenders! never seen anything like it.
I know you didn't ask me, but Kauai is a really nice island if you like the rain fores, waterfalls and to get away from people-at least that's what I remember... I have heard really good things aboot Maui, but that's the one island I haven't stayed on-just my .02
