So I recently got my first truck as a gift for my 20th birthday. A 1989 XLT Lariat F150. I've only driven it slightly because I have a cracked/dryrotted hose that connects from my valve cover to air filter box, and has white smoke coming out of it. And I have no idea what it's called! My dad mentioned something that it's my E.G.R..
And also every time I start my truck it has a weird idle, and the RPMs just keep jumping up and down, also when I sit at the light. I think it might be my fuel pump, now that I mention it,I also need to clean out my rear fuel tank.
So if anyone has any idea of what the hose could be, it'd be really appreciated! As well as what could be the source of the weird idle..
The tube between the air box and the valve cover is part of the crankcase ventilation system. There is a PVC on the other valve cover that is part of this system. As to the tube, it can be replaced with a length of hose. Make sure to check the filter for it in the airbox.
Search this forum for "Check Codes" and see if your truck has any. This will help with the idle issue.
Appreciate all the help, come next weekend I should be working on my truck again to give feedback on how it goes
