What is coldest?
Hi, Just me again, remember I am new to Exporers so I need a lot of help!!!
I would ike to know the best way to get my 97 Explorer cold fast. IS it best to have the rear air on or not. If its just me in it and I need to get it cold fast do the rear vents take away from the dash vents or do they have there own blower and all?
Thank you,
James AKA The New Guy

I do the same as Billy. I roll down the windows to exhaust the hot air. In a few minutes I start the a/c, let the supply air chill, then roll the windows back up. My Explorer has one compressor so the refrigerant is being shared in the front and back. I just let them both run for equal cooling distribution.

When it's just me in my Explorer and it's 115F+ here in Phoenix, mine feels the best when it is just the front A/C on and the rear is off. This is in my Sport, it would be even more pronounced in a 4-door. Once it gets really hot like it does here, the sun will heat up the entire inside about as quickly as the A/C can cool it off. When you turn on the rear, it takes away some of the cooling from the front. To me it's more comfortable having the fronts on to a level that I am comfortable. I don't concern myself with how hot it is in the back unless someone is riding back there. I can turn my fan 1 speed setting lower for the same comfort level if the rear is off.
When stopping and turning everything off, within 3 or 4 minutes it is uncomfortable enough inside to make you want to get out. When I get back in, I turn the A/C on "norm" to get the compressor going and the air moving in the vents. After 2 or 3 minutes I turn the fan to "high" and then may turn the A/C to "max" depending on how hot it is outside.
