Exhaust diameter question.

Hello all. I am looking at replacing my hacked up side piped exhaust for a full dual kit. The kit I found uses 2.5" pipe though. How would that affect performance on the V10? Hinder or help? Wouldn't having smaller piping crate more back pressure which would be better low end? I know the factory size pipe is 3" but the system I found uses 2.5". Please let me know. Thank you.

The y pipe necks down to less than 2" so 2.5" shouldn't have a real bad effect.

Thanks for the reply. I know the factory y-pipe does that. I also planned on replacing that with the SPD Y-Pipe. Then eventually some headers also. Thanks again.

2 1/2 would be fine for a true dual exhaust. I think you are talking about dual pipes after the cat. That would be OK as well. Single 3" is also OK. Really anything after the cat doesn't matter that much except if you go too big like dual 3" or single 3 1/2 or 4". As exhaust cools it slows down so to keep up the velocity a smaller tail pipe is fine. Biggest noticeable change will come from the headers.
