persistant np208 leak

hey guys, I have been working on an 86 150 that has the np208 transfer case. it was leaking out of the front output, so it got a new seal, and the yoke had some minor grooves so i went ahead and installed a speedie sleeve on it for good measure. it doesn't feel like there is any extra play in the bearings, but it still leaks from that seal (and it is coming from the seal, not the nut.) there wasn't any cracks or other damage, the seal had a good fit to both the xcase and the yoke.

i was just curious if anybody has dealt with this before. if so, what did you do to fix it?

Have you been using 4x4? And that's when it leaks? Have you checked the fluid level in the transfer case(take the upper plug out). It should be at the bottom of that hole.

I can't see it leaking if you do not use it. I know you will think I am crazy, but I have been fooled plenty of times, thinking something is leaking when it's really something further forward and it's blowing back and hitting the piece and making it look like it's leaking.

When you installed the speedy sleeve did you use some kind of sealant to hold it in place? I did that to my 84's rear axle and had to redo the sleeve with locktite sealant to keep it from leaking.

I have always installed them dry, never had a problem before, I replaced the fluid while doing the seal, so it was full, and it sat overnight without moving at all! I pulled the yoke back off a little after noon today, and I *think* that i got the seal to seat a little farther in, I also ran some silicone around where the seal meets the case and put it back together. It seems to have taken care of it, I can be sure in the morning.

granted it was a small drip, maybe a 2 inch puddle overnight.
