Grease seal help needed
I have a 96 Bronco and noticed this boot was torn the other day. It is the boot at the bottom of the pitman arm, and on diagrams they call it the drag link ball stud. . Can anyone tell me what this boot is called and can I just order a rubber boot and replace it? It looks like it is supposed to hold the grease from the zerk fitting. Thanks for info.
Sorry it posted it upside down ugh.

You might be able to find one in the "Help" section of auto parts stores. They come on a replacement Drag Link, but finding a replacement boot sure is the way to go!
4 ways that I know of that tears grease-retaining boots in steering and suspension:
1) Pumping too much grease in. The boot should "swell", not be inflated like a miniature party balloon!
2) Not properly orienting parts after a front-end alignment. Like turning a tie rod end, and not putting tie rod/drag link back to the proper resting position. Don't leave it rotated forward or backward. The edges of the socket-end should be equidistant from the edges of the ball-end.
3) Using a pickle fork to separate parts.
4) Getting snagged on something, like road debris. I think this one is very rare.
Let us know if you find just a boot, and where you found it, please.
