So on my F-350 I have the 1-1-1-1-1 style configuration, but I have seen on other trucks a 1-3-1 and even a 1-1-1 type installation. Did the factory only provide the even spread 1-1-1-1-1 (5 light), or was that dealer installed or both? Also some of these other configurations seem pretty popular on the older gens. The question cam up in a discussion with a friend as to what the factory (or dealer) would have done versus an over the counter sale and owner installation. Could it have varied by state? I know the early 67 Shelby's had an issue in PA because of the high beams in the middle of the grille.
As mentioned 1-3-1 is a fed DOT regulation. Don't know why but I've seen a few new car trailers lately with a 1-1- lic.plate-1-1 . Witch as far as I can determine is against Fed DOT regs.
