Hi all
I have a 97 Explorer 4.0 with blown engine. Any source for parts other than Ebay appreciated. I don't want to go Ebay because of quality concerns but as a last chance. I need timing kit, rods, valves etc.
Thanks
For the two engines I've done (quite a while ago), I let the automotive machine shop provide parts. The main reason for this is because they will be doing the measurements and will know what size of pistons and bearings you'll need. For example, you may need to go .020 over on the pistons, but the mains might just need a polish and the rods might need to be .010 under. Lots of opportunities for you to screw up. These guys are gearheads and know what works. Ask what parts they recommend and let them know you're willing to spend a few extra bucks for quality parts if you think something better is available.
If so, those engines are interchangable year to year, even '05 and up Mustangs. You need to swap over your manifolding etc, and all the electronics, but they do interchange.
Rather than rebuild one, consider a later model swap.
Serving suggestion.
If you are interested, I will dig up the links to the story on this.
