So the other day being the idiot I am, I ran over a fence post. Long story short, didn't know it poked a giant hole in my radiator and overheated my engine big time! Replaced the waterpump and patched the radiator up, found out I have a couple cracked injector cups, pulled the suckers out and some of the injectors came out with the cup stuck to them. And when I look into the injector holes, some have oil/fuel sitting in them, some don't have as much, I don't know if this is a natural occurrence? Was going to do a compression test but by the time I had all the injectors out I realized it was too late. So I don't know if I should spend $500 replaced the cups, clave gaskets and glow plugs? I don't know if the injectors are bad at all in any way? I don't know what to look for.
They really gotta make it so you can upload images easier on this app.
I hope you didn't use any stop leak cause that will clog everything up.
With the oil/fuel in the injector cup holds tend to mean that the O-rings on the injectors were on their way out. Did you have bad cackle sound? I would install new cups with the proper thread locker and torque them to spec. Start at 60in-lbs and worm up engine to operating temp and then re-torque to 120in-lbs
I've only heard a slight tinking sound until the engine was warmed up, then it was gone. I'm going to install all new cups and orings. But since this was my first time taking the injectors out, I don't know if it's natural for there to be some oil and stuff inside of where the cup sits. Or if it should be completely empty. I have not drained the oil out of truck, or the coolant. There is most likely coolant in the oil as well.
If there was coolant in the oil it would be milky. The reason why I asked about ticking noise is because its a sign of loos injectors. You may want to send in an oil analysis.
There is a drain plug in the head to drain the oil that is in there, but to be honest with you I have yet done injector cups so my knowledge is from reading the forum. It would best if you reposted this in the 7.3 section and you will get a lot of good direct answers.
