My "46" pickup has been in the family since the early to mid 50's. It has always been titled as a 46. The number on the frame is for a 47. When I first found this I put some messages out on the forums and was told that Henry wasn't above pulling out some of next years parts if he was going to run short near the end of the year. While taking the cab apart I noticed that the speedometer/gauge assembly has a manufacture date of 1947. Seems I have a newer truck truck than what I thought. For you guys that have been doing this awhile, is this a normal occurrence.
When W.W. 2 ended, the auto mfgrs. were caught short, having to re-tool back
to civilian vehicles, AND try to keep up with high demand. If your '46 was built
late in the year, it very well could have '47 parts in it, including the frame.
Its very possible it was a typographical error way back in the truck's history. If that date is a manufacture date on the speedo then its not possible it was installed new in '46. I'm guessing you indeed have a '47, but it got mistitled as a '46.
I am thinking the same thing. Who knows where it got messed up but I think I am going to leave well enough alone. I plan on keeping this truck until my final day. It can be one of my kids problems.
Yoou know that's the funny part. The VIN and the title match. It's only the year listed on the title that is possibly wrong. Thank goodness they are the same truck. I would be stuck with some new parts that wouldn't fit if they weren't.
