Stiction Additive
I know this is a fairly common topic but I wanted to hear some opinions on using Hot Shot's stiction eliminator. From what I've gathered so far it's another snake oil but in some cases works well.
My truck has 177,777.7 miles on the clock (it just hit that number this morning...lucky numbers eh?). Over the last few months it's been sitting. Prior to that it really hadn't been run all the much but when I did run it, I ran it. I switched to synthetic oil many miles ago (not overly relevant but just fyi).
Over the years I've watched my fuel mileage go down. I haven't yet been able to determine if it's a stuck fuel selector valve pushing return fuel into the un-selected tank (then leaking out as the un-used tank isn't used because it has a hole in it).... or why the mileage went down but it went down.
Anyway, to make a long story short here, I've noticed the engine doesn't seem to idle as smooth as it once did. After reading about the stiction additive/eliminator I was thinking this might help kind of clean some crap out.
So what are your thoughts on it? I bought the $50 bottle but haven't opened it yet. If I get a lot of negative input I'll simply bring it back. Otherwise I don't mind making the investment...
Thanks Much,
Heck I have 331000 on original injectors.if you keep the oil changed that's most important.I don't use any fuel treatment it anything. Mine runs just fine as of now.
Maybe it would be your cure all but I'm not buying it...
The 7.3 has Poppet valve wear issues that, although a product like Hot Shot might help it run better, it's not a "Stiction" issue that the product will help cure. If Hot Shot helps your 7.3 truck run smoother, then that's proof that you have injector issues that can only be remedied by an injector rebuild.
If a 6.0 starts better and runs smoother with the use of Hot Shot, RevX, etc, then those products are helping to remove the 'varnish' that accumulates on the Spool valve and may actually help 'fix' those injectors. They have a positive effect on some 6.0's and do nothing on others. It all depends on the severity of the accumulation of the 'varnish'.
I wish people would understand the difference and use the term "Stiction" properly.
Thank you.

There simply is no "Stiction" issue with 7.3 injectors.
We will have to agree to disagree on this.
