I've just finished installing a Must T5 trans, clutch and flywheel in my 54 F100 with a 272 and am seeing antifreeze seeping from the bottom of the bell housing dust cover after my test drive. Did I screw something up somehow or is there possibly a leaky freeze plug behind the flywheel? I didn't notice anything unusual when I was in there but I wasn't looking for anything specific either. Any help/comments are appreciated. Thanks,
Do a pressure test on the system using the psi of your radiator cap. It will allow you to locate the leak or seep without running the engine. Lots of auto supply shops will loan the tester or do it for you at their store.
That's a good idea, Joe - I should have thought of it. I have a pressure tester and a buddy has a bore scope camera. Will try both tomorrow AM. Thanks,
Thanks guys - Nice motor Mike, thanks for the pic - Ran the pressure test this AM up to 7lbs (radiator cap is a 4lb cap). Pressure stayed steady at 7, saw no leaks but did notice a drop under the thermostat housing. The depressions around the valley cover bolts had small pools of antifreeze which eventually ran to the back of the motor and down the edge of the bell housing dust cover. The clutch and flywheel were dry so I'm hoping that I found the problem. I'll replace the thermostat housing gasket and hope that is the end of it. Thanks again,
